Our Piper Archer III, located in Hickory, NC is a low-wing piston single-engine airplane with a tricycle type landing gear. It has a 180 HP engine, four seats, A/C, Garmin G600 glass panel and dual Garmin 430 WAAS GPS’s. With its predictable handling, simplicity, good looks, nice interior, and well-stocked panel, the Archer III makes an excellent entry-level airplane for new pilots training VFR and conducting local flights. It is also a great airplane for training IFR!

Our other Cessna 172 Skyhawk, is located in Hickory, NC. It is equipped with new leather seats, a new paint job, and this aircraft is ready to take you on your next adventure! Cessna’s forgiving flight characteristics, great visibility, slow landing speed, and forgiving stall you will easily adjust to flying this plane.

Redbird BATD Simulator
Come try our simulator! It is located in the SaltAir Office in the upstairs of the FBO building. This basic aviation training device hones your ability to log approaches for instrument currency. Even more so via the STEM program from Redbird students are able to watch a short video and start a simulated flight to put their newly learned skills to the test. Substitute flight time in our BATD simulator with up to 2.5hrs towards your private license and 10hrs towards instrument training . At $50 an hour it is the most economical path to maintain your 6 required approaches every 6 months for required instrument currency. The simulator allows students to graduate sooner with less total flight time needed to complete their flight training.
Rental Requirements
SaltAir requires each rental client to have FAA certifications (Private Pilot Certification or Sport Pilot Certification) and be checked out by one of our CFI's in each aircraft the client wishes to fly. Take a look at our check-out check list for each aircraft here.
